»Dear theater enthusiasts from all over the world,
the digital festival THEATERWELTEN 2021 has ended. It brought people from six regions of the world together. Unfortunately we could not greet the participating artists, the groups and the audience in the Thuringian State Theater – here in our city of Rudolstadt. This was not possible due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the festival team developed this digital format and made it possible in a short period of time. Thank you very much for that!
In the past few days we have received artistic work insights and impulses online. We had the opportunity to take part in workshops and a symposium. This interactive special edition was a stimulating prelude to the next presence festival, which will be held again in Rudolstadt next year. Today, I cordially invite you to the THEATERWELTEN festival from June 9th to 12th, 2022 in Rudolstadt.
Rudolstadt is a cosmopolitan theater and festival city rich in culture and nature. We have always welcomed people from all over the world. A special highlight every year is the world music festival “Rudolstadt Festival”.
We have been hosting wonderful national and international amateur theater festivals since 1992, jointly organized by the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater and the Rudolstadt-based Thuringian Theater Association. The hosts are the Rudolstadt Theater and the theater-spiel-laden.
The Rudolstadt Theater looks back on almost 300 years of history. The poet prince Johann Wolfgang von Goethe directed it from Weimar for several years. In addition, Goethe and Friedrich Schiller met here in person for the first time. The young Schiller made the acquaintance of the two charming sisters Charlotte and Caroline von Lengefeld. Charlotte became his wife and Rudolstadt “Schiller’s secret lover”.
In Rudolstadt there is also an amateur theater steeped in tradition: the 30-year-old theater-spiel-laden. In this successful group, especially young people interested in theater are familiarized with and promoted in the theatrical trade.
The cooperation between professionals and amateurs of theater professionals in Rudolstadt and the cooperation with the city administration of Rudolstadt have resulted in Rudolstadt also developing into a lively center of amateur theater.
