“Everyone has the right to liberty and security”. That’s what Article 6 of the German Basic Law says. What does this mean for theatre? We should address this question from many and worldwide perspectives. What conditions do we need to feel safe, to be safe? When and where do (un)safe spaces emerge in the theatre – when visiting the theatre or playing theatre? “Safety and theatre” also leads to questions of personal integrity, free development and individual risk situations. Experiences of insecurity affect our actions. Depending on the conditions, they also lead to different forms of theatre and ways of organisation. Thus, the personal feeling of (in)security also decides who goes to the theatre or how we can use or understand theatre as a form of communication. We want to talk about this together.
