For the fifth time, the Bund Deutscher Amateurtheater (BDAT) invites you to an artistic journey during the festival THEATERWELTEN. The international theatre encounter will take place for the first time in Esslingen (Baden-Württemberg) from October 13 to 16, 2022. Performances by seven theatre groups from different regions of the world and workshops with international artists await participants and guests. An accompanying symposium will examine the topic of “Theater and Safe Spaces” from local and global perspectives: Is theatre a safe space? How does it affect participation in social events?
The THEATERWELTEN festival was launched in 2015 together with the Thuringian Theater Association in Rudolstadt and has already been held there three times successfully under the festival direction of BDAT Vice President Frank Grünert in cooperation with the Thuringian State Theater and the theatre-spiel-laden Rudolstadt.
Last year, the pandemic situation led to a special digital edition of the festival.
THEATERWELTEN cannot take place this year in Rudolstadt in summer as planned due to the late adoption of the federal budget and the associated funding from the German Foreign Office. Moreover, the numerous cultural events and festivals in Thuringia do not allow for a postponement.
For this reason, THEATERWELTEN is going on tour. For the community-festival 2022, the BDAT cooperates in Esslingen with the theatre collective Stage Divers(e) – Forum for youth theatre culture and collaborates with numerous partners around the Esslingen Network Culture. Transculture, diversity and cultural participation are crucial for festival concept in Esslingen. The festival is supported by the Amateur Theatre Association in Baden-Württemberg.
