Festival 2022

Four hot days in South of Germany and in October! Watch theatre, make theatre and experience theatre together with artists from all parts of the world in Esslingen! This is THEATERWELTEN 2022! Last year, the pandemic situation led to a special digital edition of the festival. This year THEATERWELTEN is going on tour.
From 13 to 16 October 2022, groups and actors from the Philippines, Ukraine, Chile, Mexico, Zimbabwe, Lebanon, Germany and Israel will come to Esslingen. We are looking forward to meeting theatre people from all over the world, to enjoying the performances, workshops, and a symposium on “Theatre and Safe Spaces” and to sharing many emotional moments together.

At THEATERWELTEN 2022 we are happy to welcome IYASA from Bulawayo /Zimbabwe, Seenaryo from Beirut/Libanon, La mona ilustre from Santiago de Chile/Chile, Be our guests theatricals from Manila/Philippines, theatre studio 11 from Kiev/Ukraine, Elisa Medina and Nacho Cárcaba from Acapulco/Mexico, Schotte from Erfurt/Germany and youth theatre project Neue Wege II from Esslingen.

The workshops take place at the same time. Only one workshop can be chosen for the duration of the festival.
Participation in the workshops is subject to a fee.
The participation fee is 200 euros (reduced 170 euros) and also includes a festival ticket that entitles the holder to attend all performances and to use the festival catering, consisting of lunch and dinner.

Symposium

»Theater and Safe Spaces«

Another special feature of the festival is the symposium on »Theatre and safe spaces«: Is theatre a safe space? How does this affect participation in and to social events on a local level and in a global international context?
The ancient Greek term symposium (Greek συμπόσιον) stands for “drinking together, socializing”. At Theaterwelten, it stands for roundtables and open discussion forums, artistic installations and mini-performances. This year’s symposium traces the global question of theatre as a protected space (for possibilities) in a world in transition.
Participation at the symposium is free of charge!
NOTE for all workshop participants: As the dates partly overlap, it is unfortunately not possible to attend all sessions of the workshop and the symposium at the same time.
